"No..." she swirled on her heels, eyes darting to the glowing green bars that cage her in.
In the darkness a raspy voice whispered near her ears. "You can't make it... you're weak... there's not enough time." The words wrapped round and round her heart like a rope, tighter and tighter, suffocating her.
Suddenly, another voice chirped, "Hang on, it'll all be worth it."
"No... No, I can't wait!" shaking her head profusely, she sank to her feet. Eventually she grew quiet and laid curled up. Time inched on.
Seconds... minutes... hours... days.
Waking abruptly for the umpteenth time, she drew her last bit of energy and yelled at the Devil who sat calmly on the other side of the cage. Who watching her every move with cold and mannequin-like eyes. Soon, she grew tired and succumbed to sleep.
"Hey! Wake up! What are you doing laying here in the dark?" Drowsy from sleep, she forced her eyes open.
Clumsily sweeping her hair from her face, she realised that the cage was no longer there. Like it was all but an illusion.
Weakly, she pleaded, "Please... take my hand..."
